What Is Ozone and Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?
Ozone Therapy
Medical grade Ozone is a natural gas known to help individual cells produce energy through their mitochondria. Ozone increases tissue oxygenation, improves circulation, and cellular rejuvenation. Ozone therapy can be utilized via nasal cannula breathing ozonated oil filtered oxygen to help with respiratory issues, drinking ozonated water for digestive issues, topically via ozonated oil onto skin irritations and wounds, as well as by injections utilizing ozone to help with healing muscle and joint pains.
Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP)
Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy, or PRP Therapy, is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a patient’s own blood – concentrated with platelets – to accelerate healing in joints, tendons, or skin.
Who is a Candidate?
Patients who have back and neck pain related to previous injuries or surgeries, as well as chronic conditions such as degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, or arthritis. In treating some back conditions, such as scoliosis, Dr. Castillo has also found benefit to treating the pelvic area to increase the benefits of the Castioplasty.
Patients with active lifestyles with recent injuries or previous injuries to shoulders, knees, ankles, as well as hands and feet may also see benefits to repairing of joints, tissues, and improved range of motion.
What To Expect With A Castioplasty
Pre-Procedure
Before the procedure, we will do a consultation appointment were Dr. Castillo discusses the process and what version of the procedure he’s recommending based on your health concern.
The procedure will take one to one and half hours. When taken back you will have your vital signs taken. Your blood will be drawn to be used in the procedure similar to how it’s done for a PRP therapy.
Procedure
Day of procedure we require you fast beforehand.
The Castioplasty is done in office, under twilight sedation. Similar to all procedures done in office your intake will be done and the nurse will place IV for sedation, as well as draw your blood for the procedure. The drawn blood will be mixed with medical ozone for the procedure.
Depending on the area being treated (back, pelvic area, or joints), the procedure can take up to 90 minutes. Followed by a post op period where you’ll be monitored by the nurse.
Post Procedure
Patients are advised to moderate normal activities, and not overexert themselves post procedure for at least two weeks. We recommend slow return to activity beginning with physical therapy exercises for a few weeks, than gradually working back to normal activity/exercise levels. Patients should wait to be cleared before returning to normal exercise.
One to two months post procedure patient will return to the office for a follow up evaluation.
Possible Risks of Castioplasty
As with any medical procedure there are possible side effects and risks. While the side effects are minimal, they can still occur and can include:
Bleeding, infection, muscle weakness, nerve damage, itching, nausea, and fatigue.
